Just in time to send off to your overseas relatives for Christmas, they have finally re-released This is Australia by Sasek into the Australian market. Originally written in the 1970s, this volume is a very interesting look at how we were, at least through the eyes of Mr Sasek. Plus his very recognisable illustration style is stunning. You have to see this to believe it. In good children's bookstores (and of course Infancy) right now. 
So I have to admit I'm really not sure about Halloween slowly infiltrating Australia society. I can see the arguments on both sides, I mean sure the kids enjoy dressing up and it's a fun way to display our inner monsters to the world, but it's yet another import from our friends across the water. So I say why not display your inner monster everyday, find me the little boy who doesn't love a few ghouls and goblins....
